Addressing the audience, Clinton recalled a visit to the Basque Country with Hillary more than 30 years ago. It was a great experience, he said, except for the “fish and cold milk.” His comment drew laughter from the several hundred people at the rally.
Garamendi, among the most prominent Basque American elected officials in the U.S., is the grandson of Basque immigrants. A Democrat, Garamendi is running in a special election Nov. 3 to fill a vacant seat in the Northern California congressional district.

In South Africa, which has more people living with HIV than any other nation, the number of people getting ARVs grew by half.

Bill Clinton’s Win-Win Philosophy

Packing a wealth of stories, stats and a good sense of humor, he promised and then delivered a framework we can all use to make sense of today’s complex world in which we live. Wondering about what caused the financial meltdown of September 15, 2008? How about our education crisis (according to Clinton we slipped from first to tenth in the past decade)? Or how we’re to “win” in Afghanistan? For most of us, it takes every bit of our energy to deal with life’s immediate challenges, let alone trying to sort fact from fiction from all the information we’re bombarded with in today’s fragmented and often biased media ecosystem. His talk gave a fresh perspective on how to interpret the world today and s

Clinton talk takes civic tone in T.O

“In order for us to win, someone doesn’t have to lose,” he said. “Our differences matter but our common humanity means more. The ‘win-win’ game is what we need to play for our children’s future.”
Clinton also bemoaned what he said is a growing lack of civility in politics. He noted that he still works on many projects with the Bush family, his political rivals.
He touched on the nation’s healthcare debate and said, “I can’t help but think that the most dangerous thing we can do right now is nothing.”
Clinton will also be speaking today in Pasadena and on Tuesday in Redondo Beach as part of the Distinguished Speaker Series.

Clinton tours historic palace in Haiti tourism bid

Bill Clinton, slathered in sunscreen, urged Americans to explore the riches of Haitian tourism on Friday as he took a VIP trip to a mountain palace and a nearby beach where a cruise ship pier is being built.
The appeal to tourists is part of the former U.S. president's crusade to help the hemisphere's poorest nation emerge from a cycle of poverty and instability — problems that have helped drive tourists away.

President Clinton and President Preval Sign Agreement to Expand HIV/AIDS Services and Strengthen Health Systems in Haiti

Port-au-Prince, Haiti - President Bill Clinton signed a Memorandum of Understanding today with President Rene Preval and the government of Haiti. The agreement invites the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI) to provide on the ground programmatic and technical support to the Government of Haiti, to help expand access to HIV/AIDS care and treatment services and strengthen the systems required to deliver primary health care services.
“My Foundation’s global AIDS work began in the Bahamas, the setting for one of the great success stories in the fight against HIV/AIDS,” President Clinton said. “I am confident that by using the same approach that is currently helping 2 million people access lifesaving treatment around the world, we can achieve the same success in Haiti. I look forward to working alongside the government of Haiti to strengthen health systems and save more lives.”
