Bill Clinton's World

If you wanted to know how Bill Clinton thought when he was president, you ignored the scripted set-piece speeches and instead went to listen to him talk off the cuff at an evening fundraiser. At night, he would ruminate extemporaneously on race, religion, science, and the nature of the human soul. His mind would roam widely and yet pull together disparate themes into a coherent narrative as no other politician of his generation. Today, the place to hear him think out loud is at the annual Clinton Global Initiative conference in New York, where he gathers hundreds of heads of state, business moguls, nonprofit executives, academics, and even Hollywood stars not just to talk about the world's problems but

81-Year-Old to Spend a Day with Bill Clinton

Heavens to Betsy!"

That was Marcia Shpall’s reaction when the 81-year-old graduate student found out she would be spending a day with President Clinton.

A mother of four and grandmother of six, Marcia is getting her master’s degree at the Josef Korbel School of International Relations in Denver, Colorado.

She made a donation to the Clinton Foundation in late October in response to an opportunity to spend World AIDS Day, December 1, with Bill Clinton in New York City. But she never dreamed she would be selected: "I never win anything!"

A message from Bill Clinton

Amy, I grew up in the age before television in a family of hardworking, caring storytellers who taught me that everyone has a story. This has inspired much of the work I do today through my Foundation -- helping to give people better stories to tell about their lives, their future, and their world. Our measurable results are a part of the story: More than 2 million people living with HIV/AIDS now have access to lifesaving treatment. More than 3 million kids in the United States lead healthier lives. And 40 cities are protecting the planet by reducing their greenhouse gas emissions. READ MORE

Barack Obama Proves He is No Bill Clinton

While Clinton appealed to the American center ideologically – through issues as well as rhetoric – Obama appealed to the center only rhetorically. That is, Obama did not embrace a centrist policy agenda during the campaign, or after. Instead, he appealed to the center by emphasizing to no end that he would move in a different direction than the unpopular President Bush. It was enough to win without compromising himself as the die-hard liberal we all knew him to be.

Consequently, Obama has not pursued a centrist policy agenda that would produce bi-partisan support.

He should have.

Bill Clinton in Israel: There would be peace if Rabin were still alive

"Nor has a single week gone by in which I have not reaffirmed my conviction that had he not lost his life on that terrible November night, within three years we would have had a comprehensive agreement for peace in the Middle East."
