Bill Clinton, on His Economic Legacy
Given the range of issues Peter Baker covers in his article about Bill Clinton for the coming New York Times Magazine, there was not room for anything close to Mr. Clinton’s entire comments on his economic record. And they’re fascinating (as is the article). So we’re going to post, below, the transcript of that portion of the discussion between Mr. Clinton and Mr. Baker.

Green Jobs: President Clinton and Spain’s Clean-Energy Bill
Wow, did former U.S. President Bill Clinton really acknowledge that Spain’s clean-energy push has cost the country a lot of jobs?
That’s what the conservative Spanish newspaper El Mundo reported over the weekend after Mr. Clinton spoke at the European University of Madrid, a report echoed with glee by critics of Spain’s green jobs policies (“What’s ‘ouch’ in Espanol?”).
Pity for them that the former president said exactly the opposite. From his speech transcript (ellipses in the original):

Clinton joins Chirac's disease fight
Former US president Bill Clinton threw his support Wednesday behind a scheme to allow US air passengers to contribute voluntarily to a global scheme to buy cheap medicine for the developing world.
The retired US leader was in Paris, where his former French counterpart Jacques Chirac founded the UNITAID agency to oversee a one-euro-per-flight scheme to fund a massive drugs distribution effort.
Many countries, however, decided not to sign up to the compulsory tax, and French donors now pay much of the cost of a scheme that helps the United Nations to fund treatment for AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis.

Bill Clinton in call on climate bill
The US Congress must pass a "strong" climate change bill before the global warming summit in Copenhagen this December if it is to have a chance of persuading China and India to sign up to a new treaty, says Bill Clinton.
"First of all if we don't adopt a workable but a strong [cap and trade] bill then we can't get them to sign up because we won't have any credibility," Mr Clinton told the Financial Times in an interview yesterday.

Bill Clinton Speaks at FAMU Graduation

But, President Clinton's real message was to inspire the graduates to build for the future and embrace diversity.
He said, "Can you keep pushing America toward becoming one community where we celebrate our differences, but we think our common humanity matters more; infect the world with that idea and get people to stop killing each other because of one tenth of one percent of us that's different; to focus just a little more on the 99.9 percent we have in common?"
