Bill Clinton dedicates pedestrian bridge at presidential library

“So when you look at this bridge and you think about the harmony the wetlands bring between humanity and nature, just remember that,” Clinton said. “What brings real victories is cooperation.”

The bridge spans the Arkansas River between Little Rock and North Little Rock. The presidential library next to it was built to resemble a bridge in keeping with Clinton’s often-used phrase, “a bridge to the 21st century.”

About 1,750 people attended the dedication ceremony http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700183938/Clinton-dedicates-pedestrian-bridge-at-his-library.html?s_cid=rss-34

Bill Clinton's Legacy by Lanny Davis

It was in that announcement speech that Mr. Clinton articulated that he intended to follow a different path than traditional Democratic Party liberal orthodoxy, appealing to the middle class, political moderates, and independents. "The change we must make isn't liberal or conservative," he said. "It's both, and it's different.... People don't care about the idle rhetoric of 'left' and 'right' and 'liberal' and 'conservative.'

Bill Clinton talks job strategy in Albany

Some taxes should be cut while others should be increased, Clinton recommended. Obama is seeking to raise taxes on the wealthy as part of his overall plan.

Clinton rejected the economic belief that government must get out of the way for the private sector to take off.

Any plan to get the country's economy going again will require cooperation among the public and private sectors, Clinton said.

Assigning blame for America's sputtering economy, Clinton said the country fell on hard times because we as a nation "rested on our laurels" after his presidency.

"We got too interested in the present and we lost our commitment to the future," he said, hammering home his theme.

CGI wrapped up with funding totaling $6.5 bil - What is it about Bill Clinton & what can nonprofits learn?

Part of it is Clinton’s ability to confidently weigh in on nearly any aspect of humanitarian or economic policy while showing that he understands where all the various interest groups on a given issue are coming from. Last week in the online publication UN Dispatch, blogger Penelope Chester noted, “Those who have been following President Clinton and have had a chance to hear him speak before know that he has an uncanny ability to speak authoritatively about essentially any subject under the sun.”

Creating 1 Million Energy Efficiency Jobs is "a No-Brainer": Bill Clinton

According to President Clinton, creating jobs through energy efficiency retrofits should be a "no-brainer." He went on to say, "This is one thing where you can finance 1 million jobs in America on a 'just say yes' system."

I attended a blogger's roundtable with the former president last week, and the first topic of discussion was energy efficiency retrofits. Clinton went to great lengths to explain how efficiency upgrades should become a key way to create jobs across the nation.

"Usually when things sound too good to be true, they are," he said

Bill Clinton: Hillary 'Ablest Person in My Generation'

President Clinton on Sec. of State Clinton tonight: "we were kids and I met her and we started our now 40-year-plus conversation--I met her 41 years ago this last spring--pretty quick I decided that she was the ablest person in my generation. And nothing has happened in those 41 years to change my opinion. I may have been a better politician, at least on the first go-round, but I never met anybody I thought had a better combination of mind and heart."

Statement by President Clinton on the 10th Anniversary of September 11

“Our nation marks ten years since the terrible events of September 11, 2001 by remembering and honoring the lives of those who were killed and their loved ones, and the courage of those who tried to save them and of those who survived and had to begin again.

Because we live in the most interdependent age in history, it is difficult to be open to the positive forces sweeping the world while closing our borders to the negative ones. So we also honor the service of those who have worked so hard for the last decade to keep America safe, free, and still open to people of every race, culture, and faith.

Finally, we should offer special thanks to those who lost their loved ones, and responded by helping others in need. In so doing, they are winning the ultimate battle against terrorism — the triumph of love over hate.”
