Plan Colombia amazingly successful: Bill Clinton

"We just had the 50th anniversary of the Interamerican Development Bank in Medellin, it is inconceivable that there could have been an international gathering attended by the United States Treasury Secretary in Medellin without the partnership we achieved to give to Colombians the power to take back their country as much as of they could" Clinton said.

Bill Clinton supports Lee Fisher for Senate

Dear Amy,Ohio once again finds itself poised to play a pivotal role in determining the direction of our country. Next year's U.S. Senate race in Ohio is shaping up as a campaign with national implications between those who believe in working hard to find solutions to the unprecedented challenges facing us as a nation, and those who want to obstruct progress, let ideology rule the day, and leave those in need out in the cold.I've known Lee Fisher since he helped me win Ohio, and the presidency, in 1992. Since then, I've followed Lee's tireless commitment to public service, as attorney general, president of the Center for Families and Children, and as lieutenant governor. With Lee, we have a chance to send someone who's devoted his life to helping Ohio families to Washington. The stakes of these elections couldn't be higher. We need effective health care reform that will lower costs, financial regulations that will put an end to the reckless policies and shameful business practices of recent years, and clean energy initiatives that will create jobs. Lee has been advocating for these very same issues all his life. But the pundits and prognosticators don't know Lee like you and I do. They care about just one thing right now: the quarterly financial report due at midnight tomorrow. So let's make sure it's a good one. Will you make a donation of $25 or more before midnight tomorrow and show the strength of this campaign? This is going to be one of the hardest fought campaigns in the country, and Rob Portman is going to have a very large war chest by next summer. The good news is, there's something you can do. With your support, there is no doubt in my mind that Lee can win this vital Senate seat.In fact, your support is a big reason why his campaign has so much momentum today. But we have a long road ahead of us, and it's going to take a consistent, applied effort to win next November.Click here to contribute $25 or more to help the campaign have the strongest financial report possible. Now let's work together to make sure Lee Fisher is the next U.S. Senator from Ohio.Thank you, Bill Clinton

Corporations, NGOs, and Foundations Announce 13 New Commitments to Empower Girls and Women at the Fifth Annual Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiativ

Millions of girls and women will have access to improved health care, better education, and increased economic opportunity because of commitments made today at the Fifth Annual Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), which brings together leaders from across sectors of society to identify solutions to some of the world’s most pressing problems.
“Women perform 66 percent of the world’s work, and produce 50 percent of the food, yet earn only 10 percent of the income and own 1 percent of the property,” President Bill Clinton said. “Whether the issue is improving education in the developing world, or fighting global climate change, or addressing nearly any other challenge we face, empowering women is a critical part of the equation.”

Bill Clinton basks in role of world savior

Unlike at the UN building there was no dissension in the Sheraton and, contrasting with the famously slow-moving United Nations, the CGI emphasized the need to turn good words into deeds.
Among its accomplishments, the CGI says, are commitments to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 60 million tons, treat 34 million people for tropical diseases, give 10 million children better education, and provide safe drinking water to three million people in Asia.
The annual four-day networking, brain-storming and fundraising session also gives Clinton an extraordinarily high-profile platform eight years after leaving the White House.

Matt Damon commits $2 million to Bill Clinton..

Matt Damon took a break from working on The Adjustment Bureau in NYC today to make an appearance at the Cinton Global Initative. He posed with the event's main man Bill after giving a short speech, in which Matt and water.org co-founder Gary White announced their new multi-year plan to bring clean water to people in Haiti. Matt also took the stage at the convention last year to address the same issue, though this time around he has twelve months of good deeds to back up his talk.

Bill Clinton Tells Newsmax: Carter Wrong on Race; Obama Plan to Pass

During Clinton's interview with Newsmax, he took issue with Carter's recent declaration that "an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he is African-American."
Clinton's assessment of the comment: "I wouldn't have said what he did in the way that he did it because I believe that while it is true that some of the most extreme opponents of President Obama may also still have racial prejudice, I believe that 100 percent of those who are opposing him now would be against him if he were a white Democrat."

Secret interviews add insight to Clinton presidency

The call from the White House usually would come in late afternoon. President Clinton had a few hours open in the evening. Could he come over?
Taylor Branch, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author and civil rights historian, would pick up a notepad of questions and two microcassette recorders and drive his truck down Interstate 95 to Washington. Parking on the South Lawn, he would head to the White House family quarters for interviews so secret Clinton stored the tapes of them in his sock drawer.
What followed sometimes seemed like one of the bull sessions the two had two decades earlier when they shared an apartment in Austin, running George McGovern's 1972 presidential campaign in Texas.
