What Would Bill Clinton Do Now? Obama Might Ponder
My latest Capital Journal column explores a place President Barack Obama might turn for advice right now:
What would Bill Clinton do?
That may seem like an odd question to raise right now, but it’s one President Barack Obama may want to ask himself in the wake of his party’s Massachusetts Senate defeat and the swirling political winds that loss has kicked up.

Bill Clinton Report From Haiti
Amy, Yesterday I traveled to Haiti to deliver emergency supplies, see the conditions on the ground first-hand, and meet with government officials. I wish you could have seen what I saw. Haitians were performing surgeries at night, without lights, with no anesthesia, using vodka to sterilize equipment. It's astonishing what they've been able to accomplish in such devastating conditions. We delivered the first of the supplies made possible by your support -- generators, gas cans, solar flashlights, bottles of water, food, and medicines. You can be assured that your donations are being put to good use. We've already distributed more than $3 million to 12 organizations on the ground. Only with your continued generosity will we be able to sustain these efforts and save more lives. Please make a donation of any size today: www.clintonfoundation.org/haitiearthquake Even after this earthquake, I believe Haiti has the best chance in my lifetime to escape its history -- a history that Hillary and I have been able to share in a small way. It's going to take a lot of help and a long time, but they can build a better future if we do our part. Thank you for your compassion and commitment to the people of Haiti, Bill Clinton

As we commemorate what would have been Martin Luther King’s 81st birthday, I am proud of the great progress our nation has made toward becoming a 'beloved community' where people are judged by the content of character and not the color of their skin. Because of Dr. King and other courageous souls who worked realize his dream, America is a stronger, more diverse and tolerant nation than ever before.

By Bill Clinton What we can do to help Haiti, now and beyond
But after the emergency passes, the work of recovery and reconstruction will remain. Since Hillary and I first traveled to Haiti in December 1975, I have been captivated by that country's promise and peril and by the persistence of hope among its people even in the face of abuse, neglect and poverty. Already, the Haitian government and citizens, the Haitian Diaspora, neighboring countries and allies, NGOs and international groups were committed to a plan for long-term development. These efforts will need to be amended because of Tuesday's disaster, but they cannot be abandoned.

An Update from Bill Clinton
Yesterday I met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the United Nations to discuss the current situation on the ground in Haiti and the need for sustained focus through and beyond the immediate crisis. We must ensure the coordination of the United Nations, world governments, nongovernmental organizations, and individuals like you.
As UN Special Envoy for Haiti, I have been monitoring the situation very closely. What we need right now is to find survivors in the rubble, bury those who did not live, get medical care and supplies to the hurt, food for the hungry, and shelter for the homeless. And once the emergency is over, we can start to rebuild.
Together, we can make a tremendous difference in saving lives and sustaining them through this crisis.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your generosity at this critical time

Your help is urgently needed in Haiti Bill Clinton
Today, our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti who are recovering from a devastating earthquake. Buildings have collapsed, thousands of people are missing, and many are presumed homeless.
My UN office and the rest of the UN system are monitoring the situation. While we don't yet know the full impact of this 7.0-magnitude earthquake, we do know that the survivors need immediate help.
There's a way you can help Haiti recover and rebuild right now.
Click here to make a donation and find information on other organizations providing emergency relief efforts.
Approximately 2 million people live in the capital of Haiti and the surrounding areas where the disaster struck.
What we do in these first 48 hours determines how many lives we can save. Together, we can help communities get back on their feet.
I have long been committed to helping Haiti "build back better" from the 2008 hurricanes and prepare for future disasters. Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, now needs our assistance more than ever.
Help provide immediate relief and long-term support to earthquake survivors by making a donation today:
