Bill Clinton by BONO
Tackling extreme poverty is something Clinton is no stranger to — he has worked in Africa for many years, kicking off debt cancellation, which resulted in an additional 42 million African children going to school. He had a huge hand in slashing the price of AIDS drugs for people who couldn't afford them. Former President Bill Clinton highlights a network of sustainable urban gardens in earthquake-ravaged Haiti
Clinton used the Commitment to Action to honour two students to inspire the audience. Urban Roots Give Life, a project of Camille Kremer and Ann Marie Warmenhoven, will establish sustainable urban gardens in Shada, Cap-Hatien, providing a source of local, homegrown food for a nation that imports half of the food it consumes despite having fertile soil.

Statement: Statement from President Bill Clinton on World Malaria Day
There is still much work to be done. With researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and other partners, CHAI is exploring new ways to diagnose and treat malaria in the poorest and most isolated parts of Africa. Others are doing more than ever to distribute quality bednets. If the funding and focus that has brought us this far can be sustained, we have reason to believe that not too far in the future malaria will be just a memory in developing nations, just as it is now in the United States.

Bill Clinton focuses efforts on Haiti's higher education (includes video)
As he prepares to help oversee $5 billion in reconstruction spending in Haiti, former president Bill Clinton paints a challenging but hopeful picture. There's much to do: Haitians displaced by the magnitude-7 earthquake in January need sturdy housing, nutritious food and clean water, to name the basics.
But Clinton also says higher education will be a top priority.

What We Learned in Oklahoma City by Bill Clinton
We are again dealing with difficulties in a contentious, partisan time. We are more connected than ever before, more able to spread our ideas and beliefs, our anger and fears. As we exercise the right to advocate our views, and as we animate our supporters, we must all assume responsibility for our words and actions before they enter a vast echo chamber and reach those both serious and delirious, connected and unhinged.
Civic virtue can include harsh criticism, protest, even civil disobedience. But not violence or its advocacy. That is the bright line that protects our freedom. It has held for a long time, since President George Washington called out 13,000 troops in response to the Whiskey Rebellion.
