Major Milestone in Access to HIV/AIDS Medicines
Dear Amy, This week, thanks to your support, my Foundation announced two important milestones in our HIV/AIDS work: 2 million people living with HIV/AIDS are benefiting from medicines purchased under agreements the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI) has negotiated — that's half of all people on treatment in developing countries — and 195,000 children are on treatment supported by the partnership between CHAI and UNITAID — representing more than two-thirds of the total number of children on treatment globally.

Email from Bill Clinton
Amy,
I like to think I know a thing or two about running for governor in a southern state as a candidate with lots of energy and ideas. But, I've got to tell you, there's one guy running in a key 2009 election that - even back in my best Arkansas shape - I'd have a hard time keeping up with.
I'm talking about Terry McAuliffe. We campaigned side-by-side in Richmond and Roanoke yesterday. I came because there are only 42 days left before the primary election, and I know that no one will do a better job of creating jobs than Terry.
Over those last 42 days, we need to show all of Virginia what I saw firsthand: a strong Democrat bursting with ideas about how to keep Virginia moving forward. You've been there for Terry before, but as we enter the last crucial month of this campaign, he needs your help again. So please take action right this minute.
Click here to make an immediate donation in the hours before the critical April 30 deadline.
All eyes are on Virginia right now - and for good reason. This Governor's race features a contest between a Republican Party sadly wedded to the past and a Democratic Party charging into the future.
I know what it takes to barrel your way past failed and tired GOP policies to create millions of jobs. And I'm convinced that Terry -- an entrepreneur with 13 years experience running large organizations -- has the wisdom and mettle to bring the security of a good-paying job to people in every corner of Virginia. Plus, he's got a Business Plan to make it happen.
The stakes couldn't be any higher for Virginia families. And, as one of only two statewide contests this year, people all across America will be paying close attention to this election's outcome.
We're getting down to crunch time. Terry's primary is just weeks away, and he's already making door-knocking and phone-calling plans for those critical days before Election Day. Terry's spirited, can-do campaign needs all the help it can get to win these pivotal final weeks. I'm urging you to show your support right now - before it's too late.
Click here to make an immediate donation in the hours before the critical April 30 deadline.
Remember, there are fewer than 3 days before we hit that fast-approaching deadline. With your immediate help, Terry can win a big, bold victory for Virginia's future.
Best,Bill Clinton
P.S. Believe me, in this vitally important election, Terry is giving it everything he's got. And that kind of energy and commitment deserves our strenuous support. Please join in before midnight on Thursday.

Statement: On Malaria Day 2009
http://www.clintonfoundation.org/news/news-media/statement-on-malaria-day-2009
Today, the Malaria Elimination Group, of which my Foundation is a member, released documents that provide countries with new tools to design and run effective elimination programs. They will be a big help, necessary in giving all the world’s children a malaria-free future, but will require more donors to provide affected nations with the support and long-term, predictable funding that they need. I urge all who can help to do so. Millions of lives, mostly very young ones, hang in the balance. This is a fight we can win.

News: Clinton Foundation Marks Earth Day at East Harlem Garden
In observance of Earth Day on April 22, 46 staff members and interns of the Clinton Foundation planted perennials and shrubs at an East Harlem garden at 103rd Street and Madison Avenue. With shovels, spades, hoes, and team spirit, the volunteers put on gloves, broke up the soil, and then planted rose bushes, pansies, geraniums, primroses, begonias, and irises in front of the Casita Maria Senior Center located at the George Washington Carver Houses. The Foundation teamed up with the Council on the Environment of New York City for the project, and the flowers and shrubs for the garden were bought from a donation by President Bill Clinton

AIDS Clinics May Close
In Bill Clinton's words"I have 2 million people I am keeping alive with my AIDS drugs. Now, how is this economic crisis going to affect that and your other various things?CLINTON: Well, so far, it has not had an adverse effect on the Global Initiative. It has had a very adverse effect on my health and economic development programs, and my climate change programs. Because after my library was built, where Americans were very generous to me at all levels, since then most of the contributions I get are 100 dollars or less, or a half a million or more. Millions and millions and millions of dollars disappeared from that upper category through no fault of their own.So I had saved some money for a little endowment, and I spent about half of it last year to keep all of our clinics open, and to keep most of our global warming work going, because I didn't want any children to die because of the economic downturn. But this year, I have got to go out and probably get another 200,000 or 300,000 people to give me 100 dollars or less, and then get more people to give money at the 500 to 1,000, 1,500 dollar category. And if I don't do it, I won't be able to continue my operations.KING: Do you think any giving might be hard?CLINTON: Well, no, ironically, here is what I think is going to happen. I think that most Americans know they're still better off than most people who ever lived. And a lot of people around the world feel that way. So they will continue to give some money, even if less. What I think is that almost every charitable endeavor will have to do what I'm doing, they'll have to restructure to be more like the recent presidential campaign. You know, in American modern history, the most Internet- intensive, small donor-dominated campaigns ever run, in order, were: first, President Obama's; second, Hillary's; third John McCain's"

Dinner with Bill Clinton
somebody's account
"A magical evening, so full of interesting comments, I wish I recorded it all… He seems to be aging like a fine wine, from what I have seen over six meetings spread over the years…In response to recent results on the poor performance of the U.S. educational system compared to other nations:“For too long the Democrats have been focused on the teachers unions and the Republicans have focused on local control and property taxes, and neither party has focused on the children. At the fourth grade, our students are internationally competitive, but my 10th grade there is a huge chasm. It’s not as if their brains have been sucked out. The educational system has failed them. In other countries, they go to school longer each year and they test for performance. I was a big advocate for charter schools in 1992 when there were just a few of them in the nation. Charter schools are driving the best results in public schools today.”

Watch Bill Clinton's video message on energy and climate change
Dear Amy, Today, on Earth Day, I want to share with you the work we're doing in the fight against climate change. In a video I just recorded, I speak about the urgent need to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions. Despite the economic recession, we have a tremendous opportunity to solve both our environmental and economic challenges. We can do this through investment in green projects that save money and create jobs.

Why I miss Bill Clinton by Amy Dugan, PhD
The president's 2010 budget calls for $76.8 billion to fund the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), down from $78.4 billion in 2009 funding. The budget request did not provide any specific funding guidelines for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Most other departments in the federal government will see a funding increase that exceeds inflation.

If you are a scientist you know Foundations and Charities are broke because the Financial collapse eliminated their big donor base and Bush dried up federal science funding leaving many of us without a future in medical research. Obama should not only increase NIH funding for cancer and embryonic stem cells but overall funding for medical science needs to increase like it did under Bill Clinton. As of Dec 2010 or sooner, Shriners Hopsital in Cincinnati will stop all animal reaserch funding, eliminating my job.

Paterson revealed in an interview with WAMC's Alan Chartock (to air this Friday on the Capitol Connection), that he sat next to Clinton at a recent Nassau County Democratic dinner and got a bit of a pep talk from the ex-president, who, as a former governor, had some unique insight to the troubles Paterson now faces.

Clinton packs Crest Hollow
Former President Bill Clinton can still pack rooms - and raise money.
With Clinton headlining, Nassau Democrats were able to bring in about $1 million at a huge political dinner at Crest Hollow Country Club last night. The keynote speaker rose to speak under the glow of cell phone and Blackberry camera flashes and went on to rally the local troops, telling the room not to give up on Gov. David Paterson yet.

Comic-book bios -- Hillary, Sarah -- rocket off shelves
"Then I got a call a few days ago," recalls Davis. "It was Bill Clinton's office, calling to request copies of the Hillary comic." Although it wasn't the former president himself on the phone, Davis found himself stuttering as he spoke to one of Clinton's aides. "It wasn't like they were requesting it for the office," Davis recalls. "They said, 'President Clinton is requesting this from you.'"
