Dear Amy, In the 1930s, the Empire State Building was proof of what a combination of innovation and hard work could accomplish in a race to build the tallest skyscraper in the world. Today, President Clinton joined New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg to announce that the Empire State Building is joining the race against climate change. The building will undergo an energy-saving retrofit to improve building efficiency, reduce its carbon footprint, and save on utility costs.
