Bill Clinton talks job strategy in Albany
Some taxes should be cut while others should be increased, Clinton recommended. Obama is seeking to raise taxes on the wealthy as part of his overall plan.
Clinton rejected the economic belief that government must get out of the way for the private sector to take off.
Any plan to get the country's economy going again will require cooperation among the public and private sectors, Clinton said.
Assigning blame for America's sputtering economy, Clinton said the country fell on hard times because we as a nation "rested on our laurels" after his presidency.
"We got too interested in the present and we lost our commitment to the future," he said, hammering home his theme.
